Our Women's Association and Volunteers
The People Who Make It Possible
At the JSA, our Women’s Association
and many volunteers not only make our programs better, in many cases they
make them possible. The JSA Women’s Association helps to raise funds
and coordinate our volunteers that together complement our entire range
of programs and services.
Through their efforts, the Women’s
Association helps to support the Jewish Eldercare of Rhode Island (JERI)
holiday observances program, friendly visits to nursing home residents,
JSA special projects, and has funded improvements in the Comprehensive
Adult Day Center. Annual membership in the Women’s Association
is $15. A lifetime membership is available for $200.
The Women’s Association helps to provide financial support to the
JSA through its membership fees, annual raffle, and the proceeds
from their knit shop, which is located at the Jewish Seniors Agency’s
Waterman Street offices. The knit shop offers beautiful hand knitted
children’s
sweaters (for infants through size 4), Afghans and lap robes. To arrange
an appointment to see the beautiful knitted wear, call Sylvia Brown
at 438-8398 or Dottie Lippman at 351-1889.

Our Volunteers: Helping To Put Life
Into Living
Every day, JSA volunteers are teaching day
center classes, and visiting nursing home residents to share conversation
and our faith. Sometimes it’s just holding someone’s hand.
Whatever the opportunity, volunteers play a vital role in helping senior
members of our community live full and rewarding lives:
Current Volunteer Opportunities
- While
there are many ways one can help the Jewish Seniors in our community,
the Women's Association is currently looking to help recruit volunteers
for a Welcome
Committee at Tamarisk Assisted Living. This Welcoming
Committee will be fully trained to act as Good Will Ambassadors
at Tamarisk.
- We are also looking for volunteers
for the Oral History Program, which interviews
nursing home and assisted living residents to collect personal
accounts about the history of our Jewish Community to share
with future generations. Volunteers are trained prior to going
out to conduct their interviews. Individuals who have participated
in the program have thoroughly enjoyed the process.
- Through the JERI Program,
we conduct weekly Shabbat services at nursing
homes and Assisted Livings. We are always looking for volunteers.
This is a weekly or biweekly volunteer opportunity that takes no
more than an hour and a half of your time.
