TAMARISK ASSISTED LIVING RESIDENCE RECEIVES NATIONAL DESIGN AWARD
The Phyllis Siperstein Tamarisk Assisted Living Residence, which opened in
September 2003 in Warwick, Rhode Island, has received a Platinum Award from
the Best of Seniors Housing Design Awards 2004. The 66-apartment residence
was designed by JSA, Inc., an architectural, planning and interior design
firm with offices in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Jacksonville, Florida, and
Silver Springs, Maryland. Tamarisk was selected from a field of over 200 entries
from across the US and Canada.
The assisted living residence includes studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments and a separate Renaissance memory support wing. In making the award the jury said, “The Victorian ‘hotel’ effectively masks the larger residential wing beyond, giving it a residential scale and character. The wrap round porch acts as a gathering place and provides a friendly welcome to residents and visitors alike, Unit layouts provide for almost all exterior rooms to have a green space view. Outdoor spaces take full advantage of exposure to preserved green space.”
According to Susette Rabinowitz, Executive Director of the Jewish Seniors Agency that developed Tamarisk, “Every design feature reflects our commitment to making Tamarisk a welcoming, safe, secure home – a home associated with graciousness, comfort and relaxed living. The final design is the result of a truly a cooperative endeavor between our architect and many volunteer committee members whose insights were invaluable. Hundreds of people have passed through the doors since Tamarisk opened, and the reaction has been extremely positive. Common areas such as our library, sunroom, fireplaced living room, and bistro truly give residents and their families a feeling of home.”
The Platinum Award was presented to JSA, Inc. by the National Association of Home Builder’s Seniors Housing Council. It is the highest award in the “Large Assisted Living Facility – 50 units or larger” category.
Apartments in the assisted living residence and Renaissance Memory Support wing are still available. For information and a tour contact Marketing Director, Beverly-Levitt Narciso at 401-732-0037.
